It's a small world: Willow Smith's knock off and my favorite Mother of London design

Following the AMA's, I checked out the Red Carpet pickings of some of our fave celeb attendees. I gasped when I saw the lovely little Ms. Willow Smith in a bright bondage-inspired one-sleeve piece worn over a Charcoal gray harem jumpsuit with slouchy Black boots. I immediately recognized the DESIGN and only thought how surprised I was that the Smith's allowed Willow to don a piece from the very adult, very S & M-influenced label Mother of London out of LA.

The next day, drama had unfolded. It was revealed that the Yellow piece did not belong to Mother of London but, in fact, had been knocked off! Truthfully, in 2010, it's not much of a big deal for a little girl to wear something 'risque'. The real issue here is that a stylist had the piece knocked off and thought he/she could get away with it... thoughts?

So why do I care so much? The design in question is one of my favorites from Mother of London and I, in fact, used a Light Pink version of this very design in one of my editorials published in C-Heads Magazine over 2 years ago! (see photo above)

After looking at this Lt. Pink version you can see that it can be worn in a tasteful, fun, and feminine matter. So why wouldn't the stylist commission the original designer to make this piece? And maybe in a less offensive color. This would have solved both of my problems with this situation...
Just my opinion.

LIFE: B. Scott for Obvious Magazine

Last week I had the ABSOLUTE pleasure of styling multi-media maven B. Scott for Obvious Magazine.  When I say B. Scott is an all around wonderful person and a pleasure to be around I really mean it.  We had a great time and he is a natural born talent.  The harsh conditions we faced in the ULTRA-windy desert was no match for B. Scott's fierceness and dedication to bringing it.  Here a "teaser" from Obvious Magazine for the upcoming issue.  I'll be sharing behind the scenes images sooner than later.

Enjoy!

Busy Life. Someone's got to live it!

Hello All. I've taken a small break (as you may have noticed) I moved residences, have been attending LA Fashion Week events, and am doing some major prep work for 2 photoshoots this week, including B.Scott for Obvious Magazine in which we're transforming B.Scott in a way no one has ever seen him before. I love transformations! Lot's more coming up including an editorial in Fiasco Magazine.

Meanwhile... enjoy this, my favorite image from photographer Man Ray. It is one of my inspirations for 2011.

I'll be sure to jump back in next week! :)

Cheers

ART+CULTURE: Night at the Museum w/LACMA's two new amazing exhibits

Last Saturday marked the opening of two inspiring exhibitions at the LACMA (LA County Museum of Art). If you find yourself in the area or in town for a couple of days please make your way to the museum.

Fashioning Fashion: European Dress in Detail, 1700-1915 showing Oct 2, 2010-March 6, 2011 would have been a mandatory field trip for one of my textiles classes in college. The LACMA has acquired an impressive collection of European mens, womens, and childrens clothing & accessories. In LACMA's own words: The exhibition tells the story of fashion's aesthetic and technical development from the Age of Enlightenment to World War I. It examines sweeping changes in fashionable dress spanning a period of over two hundred years, and evolutions in luxurious textiles, exacting tailoring techniques, and lush trimmings.
This will be the visual stimulation needed to jumpstart winter and step into 2010. Excited does no justice for how I feel about this exhibit! I feel like I'm in school again :)

Olmec: Colossal Masterworks of Ancient Mexico showing Oct 2, 2010-Jan 9, 2011 features sculptures of the Olmec Civilazation of Mexico which was founded around 1400 BC. These sculptures weighing btw 7-10 tons each have been transported for you, the viewer, to take in the awe of this civilization. Many believe the Olmecs were of African descent, making a connection to the great pyramids. I cannot wait to attend! There is always something in sculpture and structure to inspire on the level of fashion and beyond.

Enjoy!!!

DESIGN: YES!!! JIL SANDER Spring 2011- CoLoR, StRiPeS, BOLD shapes, FUN

Designer Jil Sander is so funny. Somehow Jil has managed to keep up the serious, understated vanguard for years now but I've always known the joke was on us, the audience. Jil has a comedic side and ,while we all talk so pretentiously about the structure and sharp lines of a Jil Sander collection, she's snickering while thinking about this very collection for Spring 2011.

COLOR, COLOR-blocking, stripes in color, over-exaggerated-yet-soft blossoming silhouettes, even the return of the tulip shape!! I am very excited about this collection and what it means for Spring 2011. Will more than a few finally embrace the bright color-mixing of the nineties? I hope so! This is by no means a first. The mix of solid pieces definitely reminds me of Dries Van Noten Spring 2009. I'm just proud to see the versatility that is Jil Sander because I am a devoted fan and have been for years.
